Brown Rice Pongal/ kichdi

INGREDIENTS

brown rice 1 cup
moong dal split  1 cup
cumin seeds/ jeera  1 tsp
ginger paste   1 tsp
green chillies 1-2 slit
peppercorns 1/4 tsp crushed
ghee as required

METHOD

Wash a cup of brown rice and a cup of moong daal.

Soak them together in salted water for an hour.

Then boil them together till it begins to soften and becomes thick.

Then blend well by mashing them together with your hands or with a fork.

Saute a teaspoon each of cumin seeds, ginger paste, a slit green chilli and a few pepper corns in a little ghee in a pan.

Once done, add the rice mixture to it.

Mix in some nuts roasted just before removing it from fire.

ps- this is a very healthy pongal, as brown rice as more nutrients than white polished rice.
