These 5 foods will help you to fall asleep immediately

Lack of sleep can ruin a lot of things: our mood, our patience, our focus and our sense of enjoyment in life. We've all had those sleepless nights. But taking sleeping pills is usually a problematic strategy, because they don't give you the same natural sleep that strengthens you, and they can become quite addictive too. Better to eat something that will help you fall into a relaxing, renewing, deep sleep.

Here are five recommended foods to put you to sleep:

Frozen Bananas

Frozen bananas can be turned into a thick and tasty ice-cream. All you need is the right technique of consistent mixing. The idea is to mix for several minutes until the bananas turn into a creamy delight. Add a handful of chopped peanuts for an extra tryptophan boost (a chemical that is known to relieve tension and put you to sleep) and you have a great combination. Not only will the potassium in the bananas help you fall asleep faster, it can also prevent you waking up for no reason in the middle of the night.

Low Fat Popcorn
Food - Help You Sleep
The carbs in popcorn will help your body better utilize tryptophan. This happens because the tryptophan is converted into serotonin, which is responsible for putting you to sleep and waking you up every day. Since a heavy meal about 2 hours before sleep can actually keep you awake at times, a low-calorie popcorn bowl is a recommended treat for late night snacks. If you want to add some flavor, we suggest some curry powder or garlic, instead of butter.

Halibut

The halibut fish comes with two great sleeping aids: tryptophan and vitamin B6. It has a meaty, gentle texture - recommended for sea food lovers.

Other foods rich in Tryptophan: Chicken, Beef, soy, yogurt, bananas, peanuts and eggs.

Mango Shake
Food - Help You Sleep
Mangoes are packed with antioxidants, proteins, and vitamins and are also a natural sweet that can help banish your sugar cravings.

To make a mango shake: Cut up a fresh mango and put it in the blender. Add a scoop-full of ice, a small scoop of low-fat Greek yogurt and just a little splash of milk or water. To make it a little sweeter, you can add a bit of honey. And if you don't like mangoes, the same can be done with strawberries in the winter and watermelons in the summer.

Dried Cherries

A handful of dried cherries won't just provide you with a dose of carbs and serotonin, it is also one of the better-known sources of melatonin - a sleep-inducing hormone (also essential in preventing jet-lag). If that's not enough for you, dried cherries are also packed with antioxidants.

Cherry and Chocolate Two Tone Fudge

    Important Ingredient Notes

    • White chocolate chips – White chocolate forms the base of this cherry fudge recipe because it allows the cherry flavor to take center stage.
    • Fluff marshmallow cream – A secret ingredient for that perfect fudgy texture! Use our homemade marshmallow fluff if you want to take it to next level.
    • Unsalted butter – Using unsalted butter gives you more control over the flavor of the fudge.
    • Heavy whipping cream – Heavy cream adds richness and an irresistibly creamy texture.
    • Cherry flavored gelatin – A great way to add color and flavor to this cherry fudge.
    • Dried cherries – I love the texture and tart flavor that dried cherries add.
    • Dark chocolate – Carefully melt the chocolate in the microwave.

    Healthy bars

    Ingredients

    • 2 1/2 cups rolled oats (not quick or instant)
    • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup flaked sweetened coconut
    • 1 cup of “extras” – chopped toasted walnuts, almonds & pecans, dried cherries & chocolate chips (mini or regular)
    • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
    • 1/3 cup honey
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Instructions:
      1. Preheat oven to 325° F.
      2. Line a 9” x 9” square pan with 2 criss-cross sheets of parchment paper (not foil) leaving extra overhang on all sides.
      3. Combine oats, brown sugar, coconut and extras in a large bowl.
      4. Combine honey, oil, and vanilla in a measuring cup.
      5. Add honey mixture to oat mixture and take time to combine thoroughly - about a minute.
      6. Spread in baking pan, pressing down very firmly. Try pressing down with the back of a spatula.
      7. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool completely in pan. (mine takes an hour to cool on a cooling rack)
      8. Remove from pan (using parchment handles) to cutting board. Remove paper and cut into bars.

Bars not holding together? Try pressing them down again after baking. Let them cool for 10 minutes and press down firmly while warm, then let them cool COMPLETELY before cutting.
Bars Too Crumbly? Try placing the 9 x 9 pan on a baking sheet to bake to keep the bottom of the bars softer.

    EASY HOMEMADE GRANOLA

    INGREDIENTS
    240 gm rolled oats
    100 gm walnuts, coarsely chopped
    25 gm toasted wheat germ
    2 tbsp olive oil
    ½ tsp coarse salt
    120 ml golden syrup
    ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
    1 large egg white
215 gm dried cherries or other dried fruits, diced
    METHOD
Preheat your oven to 150C/gas mark 2.
Combine all the ingredients except the egg white and dried fruit in a large bowl, tossing to coat evenly.
Whisk the egg white in a small bowl until frothy.
Stir into the granola mixture, distributing it throughout.
Spread it in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 45 to 55 minutes.
About halfway through the baking time, use a large spatula to turn over sections of the granola carefully, breaking them up as little as possible.
Rotate the baking sheet if the granola is baking unevenly.
When it is evenly browned and feels dry to the touch, remove from the oven to  cool.
Cool completely, then break up the granola into whatever size clusters delight you.
    Sprinkle in the dried fruit.
The granola keeps at room temperature in an airtight container for two weeks.
It keeps even longer in the freezer.
