Dates Stuffed with Walnuts and Cream Cheese

Ingredients for Stuffed Dates:

Pitted dates - 16 (Medjool dates work great)

Cream cheese - 1/4 cup (softened)

Walnuts - 8 (halved)
Dates Stuffed with Walnuts and Cream Cheese

Method of preparing

Cut a small opening in the middle of each pitted date, then open them with your hands and fill them with cream cheese using a teaspoon or a piping bag. Press a walnut half into each cheese-filled date. Enjoy fresh!

Chef's Tip: For a dairy-free version, simply skip the cream.

My tip- you don't have cream cheese, you can either add some sugar to paneer, knead well, keep it in fridge, then stuff, or if you've sweetened khoya ( thickened sweet milk) that will also be yummy !

5 low-calorie desserts that you can eat this Diwali without guilt

Sweets you can enjoy this Diwali without guilt

Food has been an integral part of Indian celebrations since forever. It is a custom of preparing traditional delicacies at every festival, and Diwali is all about sweets. The assortment of delicious sugary treats is what makes Diwali worth celebrating. But it is high in calories, can wreck your weight gain plan and even spike the blood sugar level. That does not mean that you cannot enjoy desserts this Diwali. All you need to do is choose the right kind of sweet and we will tell you what are your 5 best options.

Laddoo

Laddoo is a must-have sweet during Diwali. Mostly offered to the deity during the Diwali Pooja, you will be offered laddoo in every house. Be it besan or dry fruits, you can have laddoos without any guilt. If you are making it at home you can make laddoos healthier by using ragi as the main ingredient and replacing sugar with jaggery. It will be equally delicious, but extremely healthy. Avoid motichoor laddoos as they are comparatively high in calories.

Coconut Barfi

When it comes to Indian sweets, coconut barfi is another dessert that you can enjoy this festive season. This is easy to make and you can even prepare it at home and swap some ingredients to make it even healthier. Coconut is naturally sweets and by adding dates, nuts and some jaggery you can decrease the calorie count and can experiment with the traditional recipe.

Sweets made with curdled milk

Any kind of sweets made with curdled milk is good to have this Diwali. Rasogulla, Chhenna payas, Sandesh all can be enjoyed during this festive season, but with care. While eating these sweets, just squeeze out the extra sugar syrup to lower the sugar intake. Sweets made with curdled milk is also good for your intestine. It can help to prevent diarrhoea and also prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

Moong dal halwa

When someone says halwa all that comes to our mind is ghee and sugar. But you can also enjoy halwa prepared with less ghee and less sugar. Moong, besan or rava you can enjoy all kinds of halwa during the festival, Add some nuts to it to make it tastier and healthy. Just be careful about the portion size.

Kheer

Kheer is a homemade dessert that can be enjoyed after a heavy meal. Every household has some traditional way of preparing kheer. Some like rice kheer, while others make it with fox nuts. You can enjoy a bowl of this homemade treat without any guilt. If you are preparing kheer at home use less sugar and pay attention to the quantity of kheer you are serving to others. If you want to make it healthier then try carrot or dates kheer.

The takeaway

Diwali is an annual festival, and you cannot enjoy it by refraining from having special dishes prepared for the celebration. If you follow a healthy routine all year round, you need to worry about indulging in food prepared for the occasion. Just do not overindulge as it may lead to bloating and acidity the other day. In the case of sweets, away pick the one that is homemade and prepared specially during the festival season. Avoid sweets that are available throughout the year.
