Kollu Thuvayal / Chutney

 Ingredients:
 

Kollu -1/4 cup 


Sesame oil-2 tsp
 

Urad dal-2 tbsp
 

Chana dal-2 tbsp
 

Coriander seeds-1 tbsp
 

Peanuts- 2 tbsp

 

Dry red chilies-4
 

Pepper corns-1/4 tsp
 

Cumin-1 tsp 
 

Onion-1 diced
 

Tamarind- gooseberry size
 

Salt as required
 

Grated coconuts-3 tbsp

Preparations
 

In a pan add 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and add Kollu and fry them 

well until they turn brown and splutter. And keep them aside.
 

In the same pan add one more teaspoon of oil and add the other 

ingredients to saute. Including chilies.
 

Once they turn golden in color add onions, and saute. Then once it’s 

done turn off the stove add tamarind, salt and coconuts. 

Finally add everything to the blender along with Kollu and add water 

according to get the consistency and grind coarse or smooth as per 

your preference.

Tastes great with rice and ghee, curd rice and dosa. Adding peanuts 

gives a crunchy taste along with the taste of Kollu. 


Some will pressure cook Kollu and use them some will fry splutter and 

use them. You can do it either way, frying kollu make sure it fries well.
