Sattu, what it is made from, healthy summer drink- Sattu Buttermilk

Sattu Is Luke Coutinho's Favourite Summer Drink, See His Buttermilk Recipe

Sattu is made from these roasted nuts, you can powder with/ without skin.

When the summer heat starts to feel unbearable, most of us instinctively reach for chilled sodas, packaged juices, or fancy “health” drinks. But what if the answer to staying cool, full, and energised has been right in front of us all along? That's exactly what wellness expert Luke Coutinho recently reminded everyone of, and it's making people rethink what they drink in the heat.

Luke Coutinho Shares The Health Benefits Of Sattu

In a recent post on X, Luke spoke about something incredibly simple: a glass of sattu. It's not a new superfood or trending protein shake. It's just something our grandparents have been drinking for generations. He shared how sattu has long been a staple in states like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, especially during peak summer afternoons when the sun is at its harshest.

And the best part is that it's made with just a few ingredients, like roasted chana powder, water, salt, jeera, and some mint. And that's it, it has no chemicals, no additives, and no external flavours. One of the most interesting things Luke pointed out is how earlier generations didn't overthink nutrition. Instead of counting the grams of protein, overthinking about the gut, and labelling things as superfoods, they simply consumed what they understood. Sattu was a part of their everyday life because it's filling, gives energy, and keeps the body cool in summer.

Luke also made an important point that hits home. He said, “Today, most people are busy chasing the next  protein supplement, having sugar-loaded drinks to beat the heat, which is harming their bodies in so many ways.” And maybe it's time to change that.

Sattu Is Perfect For Today's Lifestyle

When you look at sattu today, it actually fits perfectly into modern nutrition goals.

Rich in plant-based protein, it's a great alternative to protein powders. It's also high in fibre, which helps keep your gut healthy and digestion smooth. Unlike sugary drinks that give you a quick spike and crash, sattu gives slow, steady energy.

Make Sattu Buttermilk At Home:

To make things even more interesting, Luke shared his own upgraded version of the classic drink, a sattu buttermilk recipe, on YouTube:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp sattu
  • Fresh home-set dahi/ curd
  • Jeera / cumin powder
  • A pinch of hing
  • Black salt
  • Soaked sabja seeds
  • Water

Method:

Mix everything together and blend it well until it turns light and frothy. And that's it, your cooling, filling, naturally high-protein drink is ready.

In a world full of new diets and trends, sattu shows how simple food can be powerful.
