This tart liquid is sometimes known as Grandma’s probiotic and is a traditional Indian probiotic with live cultures. But keep in mind that heating buttermilk – while cooking – destroys the live cultures.
Ingredients
- Curd: 1 cup
- Water: 1 glass + more as per your taste
- Cumin powder: 1 tsp
- Green chili: 1/2 finely chopped, optional
- salt little
- hing little
- curry leaves few finely chopped
Method
Put all the ingredients, 1 cup curd, 1 glass of water, 1 tsp of cumin powder, salt, hing, curry leaves and, ½ green chili in a blender and give it a whirl.
Serve with some grounded pepper and add ice if needed.
The presence of lactic acid gives this drink a slightly sour taste.
Some prefer the buttermilk more watery, so adjust water as per your taste.
It quenches thirst, aids digestion.
