Many people are lazy to peel an orange and eat, even if they love them.
The easiest way to peel an orange is cut its top and bottom slightly. Then cut in the middle, not right through, then you can open it and spread it, easy to pick each one and eat.
Don't throw the orange peel either. Put it in your bin, to smell fresh.
Dry it, make powder to use as face mask by mixing with some turmeric powder and milk/ cream.
Orange peel deters cockroaches, cats.
The gardener recommends boiling a few orange peels in a cup of water for ten minutes, then straining the liquid into a spray bottle (such as this one from Amazon) once cool. 'Spray this every 3-4 days to get rid of pests like slugs, aphids, ants, whiteflies, and fruit flies – and to keep them away.
Orange peel after removing the white pith, cut into thin pieces, cut ginger about 1 tbsp, green chilies around 1 tbsp, depends on the spiciness of the chilies, need about a marble size tamarind, soak in water and extract its juice or use tamarind paste 1 tbsp -more or less as per your taste, salt to taste.
Heat 1 tbsp oil, add mustard seeds, once it splutters, add ginger, green chilies, chopped curry leaves, hing, fry well for a minute, add orange peel fry for a minute, add tamarind juice, salt, turmeric pdr, let it boil and thicken. It goes well with curd rice, with " kootu"- combo of lentils + vegetables. This thick orange pachadi can be stored in the fridge for roughly 4-5 days, if it lasts that long. It goes well with bread toast too.
