One of the things I love most about
Halloween is the atmosphere. Everything is colorful, creative and
delicious! So to make sure you too are prepared for the most colorful of
holidays, we're going to teach you how to use some common candies to
create three funny, inventive and mouthwatering cupcakes that anyone
will fall in love with at first sight. Follow our easy instructional
video below to make your own!
For the cupcakes, you’ll need:
• 1 1/2 Cups all-purpose flour
• 1 Cup sugar
• 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup water
• 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 F (180 C) and line 12 muffin tins with baking
cups.
2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and
salt.
3. Add water, vegetable oil, and vanilla and mix until incorporated.
4. Add vinegar and mix thoroughly.
5. Divide batter equally into the muffins tins (about 2/3 full) and bake
for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out
clean.
6. Let cupcakes cool.
For the decorations, you’ll need:
• Your favorite buttercream frosting (homemade or store-bought), colored green, purple and orange
• Orange, purple and green sugar sprinkles (you can buy it or make your own)
• Green and black jelly beans
• Oreos
• White M&Ms, Smarties or chocolate buttons
• Melted Chocolate
• Hershey’s kisses
• Wafer rolls
Directions for the pumpkin cupcake:
1. Using an ice-cream scoop, place a dollop of orange frosting onto the
cupcake. Use a knife to spread it out and make sure the frosting is
stuck to the cupcake.
2. Turn the cupcake upside down and roll it into a bowl of orange sugar
sprinkles, covering all the frosting.
3. Use a wooden skewer to lightly mark the frosting, creating the
pumpkin shape.
4. Place a green jelly bean on top, to make the stem
Directions for the bat cupcake:
1. Using an ice-cream scoop, place a dollop of purple frosting onto the
cupcake. Use a knife to spread it out and make sure the frosting is
stuck to the cupcake.
2. Turn the cupcake upside down and roll it into a bowl of purple sugar
sprinkles, covering all the frosting.
3. Separate the two sides of an Oreo cookie and break them in half.
4. Place each half on top of the cupcake, creating the bat’s wings.
5. For the eyes, use a bit of frosting to stick 2 white M&M’s to the
cupcakes and draw the pupils with a bit of melted chocolate and the
help of a toothpick. Alternatively, you can buy ready-made candy eyes in
specialized stores.
6. Cut another M&M into quarters and use 2 of them to make the
fangs.
Directions for the witch cupcake:
1. Using an ice-cream scoop, place a dollop of green frosting onto the
cupcake. Use a knife to spread it out and make sure the frosting is
stuck to the cupcake.
2. Turn the cupcake upside down and roll it into a bowl of green sugar
sprinkles, covering all the frosting.
3. Separate the two sides of an Oreo cookie.
4. Using a bit of frosting in any color, stick a Hershey’s kiss onto the
Oreo to make the witch’s hat, and place it on the cupcake (you may use a
bit of frosting as “glue”).
5. For the legs and feet, use some melted chocolate to stick black jelly
beans to the wafer rolls and place them into the cupcake, securing
firmly.
