INGREDIENTS
Red apples 6 big
Almonds ¼ cup
Ghee ¾ cup
Cardamom pdr. 1 tsp
Mawa / thickened milk 2 tbsp
Raisins ¼ cup
Saffron little
Sugar ¾ cup
Lime juice 1 tsp
METHOD
Soak the raisins in just enough water to cover them.
Heat a small bowl, remove and add saffron, shake it well, to make the
saffron crisp, when cooled, crush them well and dissolve in 1 tbsp milk.
Blanch almonds and cut into slices
This halwa tastes good only when fresh and not after re-heating. So just
before needed, peel the apples, core them, cut them into halves and immerse in
water to which lime juice has been added.
Heat ghee in a heavy pan or non-stick pan, once ghee has melted and hot,
remove from fire and quickly grate them over ghee. Once all apple halves are
grated, put the pan on medium flame, keep stirring until all the liquid is
absorbed and apple is golden in colour. Drain the raisins and add them to the
apples along with saffron, mawa, cardamom pdr., sugar and almond slices. Continue
cooking till it becomes thick, remove, serve hot sprinkled with some more nuts
on top.
