INGREDIENTS
Dough:
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
140g Butter (not margarine)
±1 cup milk & warm water(mixed in equal parts)
Filling:
2 cups desiccated coconut
½ cup nibbed nuts of your choice
4 tbsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp poppy seeds
1 tsp elachi powder
½ cup sugar
2 tbsp milk powder
4 tbs condensed milk mixed with a few drops of rose essence
METHOD
Rub butter into baking powder and flour mix. Add liquid a little at a time until you have a soft dough.
Dry fry the first 4 ingredients together.
Once cool mix in the next 3 ingredients. Lastly, mix in condensed milk. Fill as per instructions above.
Roll out into small circles. Fill with filling & seal with a fork or crimp the edges or use a pie press. Fry on medium heat until golden brown. Roll in sugar whilst hot (optional). This somasi / karanji can be stored at least for a week outside, after cooling well, keep it in airtight container.
