Semolina- beetroot spicy cake !

I've made egg-less semolina cake often, as my mother would ask for it, as she never ate cakes with eggs.

Now also, I make it often as prasad, after reading in a week Sai Satcharita. Today saw the recipe with beetroot and spices, I thought nice change.

INGREDIENTS

suji/ semolina  2 cups

1 beetroot finely chopped 

green chilies finely chopped to taste OR

better to add green chili- ginger paste 2 tbsp

salt to taste

curd  1/2 cup

water as needed

baking soda 1/2 tsp

baking pdr  1 tsp


METHOD

in a big bowl mix all the ingredients except the last 2 well.

set aside for 30 minutes, as suji can get too thick, then add more water to get the consistency of idli batter.

before steaming, add baking soda, and baking pdr, mix well for 3-4 minutes.

Then grease idli plates, keep water in the steamer or pressure cooker on the gas, fill in idli plates, steam for 10 - 12 minutes, till the knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.
