9 Foods You Are Washing Incorrectl

People who place a high value on their health know how important it is to wash their food thoroughly well. While the process is simple - turning on a faucet and rinsing your food, there are a few nuances that are essential for you to remember. Below are 9 products we wash incorrectly:

1. Frozen fruits and veggies
9 foods to wash well
While frozen fruits and vegetables tend to save us more time in the kitchen - no chopping required - before freezing, vegetables are washed with water. However, most people do not wash frozen products before using them, which is fine if they are being cooked at a high temperature. But for al dente vegetables, they should be washed thoroughly to get rid of the dirt and bacteria.

2. Rice
Rice, particularly long grain rice, should be rinsed 3 to 4 times before cooking. The main danger lies not in the dust but in the starch covering rice. The starch is what causes the rice to clump together, making it look unappetizing. Other starchy grains like corn or wheat grains should be rinsed until the water runs clear.

3. Mussels and oysters
9 foods to wash well
All seafood in shells, including mussels and oysters, should be thoroughly rinsed - even if you buy the frozen packet, as they are full of sand and grit.

 4. Milk and dairy products
The packaging of milk, yogurt, and other liquids should all be washed before opening. Thousands of customers touch these items, pick them up and read the information on the labels. As soon as we open a bottle, the bacteria from people who have previously handled the container can easily be passed on.

5. Fish
Unless you are going to eat fish raw, there is no need to wash it as high temperatures all bacteria. Furthermore, if you rinse raw fish, there is a risk of spreading the bacteria all around your kitchen. Bear in mind that after handling the fish, you should wash your hands, the cutting board and the knife.

6, Cabbage and cauliflower
Cabbage must be washed thoroughly no matter what type of cabbage it is. Cauliflower, which comes from the same family as the cabbage should be cleaned well, in all its nooks. To cook red or white cabbage, remove the upper two layers as they tend to hide dirt and dust. To get rid of bugs and bacteria put the cabbage in the sink and fill with water, adding some vinegar and leave for a couple of minutes. Then rinse with clean water.

7. Canned beverages
9 foods to wash well
Don't gulp a can of soda without washing it or wiping it down first. Cans travel in dusty trucks and are handled by many people. In fact, it's all the better if you pour the contents from the can into a glass.

 8. Lettuce and all leafy green veges
Greens are extremely tasty and healthy. But when preparing lettuce, don't forget to rinse it first. To get rid of sand or dirt in the leaves, you need to tear the lettuce and leave it to soak in cold water for a couple of minutes. Once you take the lettuce out, place in a colander or on a clean kitchen towel and let it dry.

9. Apples and grapes
9 foods to wash well
Apples, like most fruits, need to be thoroughly rinsed. Studies show that if you soak fruits in water and baking soda for 12 minutes, the majority of the chemicals will be washed away.

10. Strawberries
One of the expensive fruit, doesn't last long, but here is a trick,  remove all the greens, take vinegar 1 part and 2 parts water, wash the strawberries well. Then keep in a colander for the water to drain out, then if you store in the fridge, it lasts long without getting spoiled.

Candied Lemon Skins

This is an unusual treat, and if you want to keep the peel's sour flavor, just use less sugar than called for in the recipe.

uses for lemon peels

Ingredients:
• 4 large lemons

• 2 cups of sugar

• 8 cups of water

 Preparation:

1. Peel the lemons and cut the peel into thin strips.

2. Place the peel on a cutting board and remove as much of the fruit as you can using a sharp knife.

3. Boil 2 cups of water in a medium-sized pot. Add the peel strips to the boiling water and cook for 2 minutes. This will remove most of the bitterness in the peel. Remove the peel strips from the water.

4. Repeat the process 2 more times, using fresh water each time.

5. Empty the pot, add 2 new cups of water and 2 cups of sugar. Let it simmer to produce a sugary syrup.

6. Lower the heat and add the lemon peel. Cook the strips in the syrup for an hour – they should become soft and translucent. Use a fork or tongs to remove the strips from the syrup and leave them on a drying rack to dry out – this should take a few hours.

Amazing uses of yogurt

A cup of yogurt each morning is a great way to start the day and reap its health benefits. But this versatile dairy product has a number of other uses too, some of which extend beyond eating and drinking it. In fact, yogurt can be used as an excellent skin and hair care product, primarily due to its mild astringent qualities and its high quantities of zinc and lactic acid - making it a great, natural, hydration treatment. Best of all, it's cheap!

Let's take a look at 10 surprising uses for yogurt, you most likely never considered:

1. Use yogurt to lower your cholesterol
Yogurt Has Many More Uses Than You Might Think
People with borderline to moderate-high cholesterol levels, may benefit from eating yogurt with probiotic Lactobacillus Acidophilus, alongside a combination of the bacterium Enterococcus Faecium and Streptococcus Thermophilus. This type of yogurt is thought to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol. However, it does not raise HDL (good) cholesterol.

2. Use yogurt to enhance your immune system
Yogurt contains active cultures that enhance the body's immune system. It increases the production of gamma interferons, which play a key role in fighting allergies and viral infections. Studies conducted on yogurt also found that it can help prevent gastrointestinal infections.

3. Use yogurt to naturally whiten your teeth
Yogurt Has Many More Uses Than You Might Think
Teeth whitening treatments are rather expensive, but why spend money when you can prepare a natural remedy with yogurt at home? Just rub some yogurt onto your teeth daily for a couple of weeks for sparkly white teeth. Yogurt is believed to work because of the phosphorus and calcium it contains.

4. Use yogurt to relieve sunburn
Yogurt is a fantastic source of zinc, which helps sooth the burning and itchiness of sunburn. To relieve the symptoms, apply a thick layer of plain, cool yogurt directly to your burn and rinse off with cold water after 20 minutes.

5. Use yogurt to relieve symptoms associated with diarrhea
Yogurt helps restore bacteria in the intestine, and can be used after taking antibiotics or to treat antibiotic-related diarrhea and acute diarrhea in children. In fact, a yogurt formula may be given as a replacement for milk formula in infants and young children to relieve persistent diarrhea.

6. Use yogurt as a replacement for cheese
The consistency of yogurt cheese is similar to cream cheese, but is lower in fat and contains healthy bacteria. Yogurt cheese can be used as a spread on bagels, toast and crackers and may be used as an alternative to cream cheese in cheesecake recipes.

Preparing yogurt cheese is pretty simple. Empty a pint of yogurt into a large, fine-meshed strainer to catch the liquid that drains from the yogurt. The texture will vary depending on how long it drains. Then cover and refrigerate for eight to 24 hours. This will make about one cup of yogurt cheese.

7. Use yogurt as a natural body scrub
Yogurt can be used as a scrub for your hands, feet or the whole body. Simply mix with oats or dried citrus peel. Massage the blend into your skin gently in a circular motion and rinse off with lukewarm water. Your skin should feel smooth and hydrated.

 8. Use yogurt as a hair conditioner
The properties found in yogurt make it an ideal remedy for smoothing the skin, but it's also great for your scalp and hair. Yogurt helps bring out your hair's natural shine making it soft and silky. It can be used as a hair mask instead of your conditioner. Just take some plain yogurt and rub it all over your hair, then rinse with lukewarm water. Yogurt will also help soothe an inflamed scalp, reduce hair loss and will help banish split ends.

 9. Use yogurt to relieve canker sores
Yogurt Has Many More Uses Than You Might Think

Caramelized Banana Walnut Chocolate Pie

This is a delicious and short-cut take on a lengthy pie. The ingredients and process are reduced substantially, but the appealing flavours are on point. Here is how you make them.

Total Time: 40 minutes
Serves: 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 4 pcs puff pastry sheets
  • ½ cup walnuts
  • 2 cups compound dark chocolate
  • 2 bananas
  • ½ cup sugar

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 250’C. On a gas stove, dry roast the walnuts until they become slightly toasted and gain a nutty flavour. Then roughly chop them into smaller bits.
  • Use a double boiling method to melt the compound chocolate, need not melt it to a liquid state, but just softening the chocolate is enough. Take a baking dish and line the puff pastry sheets on them. Once the sheets cover the baking dish well, pour in the melted chocolate. Top the chocolate with the toasted bits of walnuts.
  • Once this setting is ready thinly slice bananas and cover the chocolate and walnut layer. Now sprinkle sugar over the bananas.
  • Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake until the puff pastry is golden and the sugar on the bananas is caramelized.
  • Remove from the oven and serve (optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream).

Loaded Baked Potatoes

Total Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 4 large-sized potatoes (preferably longer in shape)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions and bell peppers
  • 1 cup boiled kidney beans (rajma)
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  • The first step is to preheat the oven while other preparations are done. Wash and dry the potatoes and make a vertical slit along the length of the potatoes. Bake these potatoes in an oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are fully baked (take care not to keep the potatoes for longer or make them softer or mushy.)
  • Once the potatoes are fully baked, open the slit so that the fillings can be easily added to it. You can even scoop out some of the potatoes to make space. In the cavity, add salt to season the potato (you can also add salted butter to make it more indulgent) Now add a mix of the chopped vegetables. On top of the vegetables, add some of the boiled kidney beans, Now add the cheese and top it all with some sour cream.
  • Remember to be very quick with the loading of the potatoes, as they taste best when they are steaming hot. Once the potatoes are fully loaded, the cheese will melt and create a delicious cheese pull.
  • You can add seasoning and toppings of your choice. Serve to pipe hot.
