BEWARE WHILE BOILING WATER IN MICORWAVE !

A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee.
He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to
heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before).
I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he wanted
to bring the water to a boil. When the timer shut the oven off,
he removed the cup from the oven. As he looked into the cup,
he noted that the water was not boiling, but suddenly the
water in the cup 'blew up' into his face. The cup remained
intact until he threw it out of his hand, but all the water had
flown out into his face due to the build-up of energy.
His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd
degree burns to his face which may leave scarring.

He also may have lost partial sight in his left eye.
While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending to
him stated that this is a fairly common occurrence and
water (alone) should never be heated in a
microwave oven.
If water is heated in this manner, something should be
placed in the cup to diffuse the energy such as a
wooden stir stick, tea bag, etc, (nothing metal).

General Electric's Response:

Thanks for contacting us; I will be happy to assist you.
The e-mail that you received is correct. Microwaved water
and other liquids do not always bubble when they
reach boiling point. They can actually get superheated and
not bubble at all. The superheated liquid will bubble up out
of the cup when it is moved or when something like a
spoon or tea bag is put into it.

To prevent this from happening and causing injury,
do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup.
After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for
 thirty seconds
before moving it or adding anything into it.

Here is what a local high school science teacher had
to say on the matter: 'Thanks for the microwave warning.
I have seen this happen before. It is caused by a
phenomenon known as super heating.
It can occur any time water is heated and
will particularly occur
if the vessel that the water is
heated in is new, or when heating a small
amount of water (less than half a cup).

What happens is that the water heats faster than
the vapor bubbles can form. If the cup is very new,
then it is unlikely to have small surface scratches
inside it that provide a place for the bubbles to form.
As the bubbles cannot form and release some of the heat
that has built up, the liquid does not boil, and the
liquid continues to heat up well past its boiling point.

What then usually happens is that the liquid is
bumped or jarred, which is just enough of a shock
to cause the bubbles to rapidly form and expel the hot liquid.
The rapid formation of bubbles is also why a
carbonated beverage
spews when opened
after
having been shaken.
If you pass this on
, you could very well
save someone from a lot of pain and suffering.

HEALTHY GLUTEN FREE VEGE PANCAKE/ADAI/ STUFFED PARANTHA !

INGREDIENTS  for 3 small parantha

cauliflower coarsely crushed/ grated  1/2 cup
carrot coarsely crushes/ grated   2 tbsp
green chilli 1-2 also crushed
salt to taste
crushed oats  1 tsp
bajra flour 1 tbsp
maize flour  1 tbsp
jowar flour   1 tbsp
red chili pdr. to taste

Method
there is no hard and fast rule about the amount of veges or what veges to use. I made it with cauliflower and carrot this morning, as my GP wants me to shed weight, so he said NO RICE, NO WHEAT ! ONLY VEGES, FRUITS AND MILLETS. As I got hungry, as I missed my morning pongal breakfast, was hungry after 2 small glasses of oats and multigrain kanji ! so decided to make this adai/ as north Indians will call it parantha, while the Americans and Europeans may call it pancake. Only difference is , I made the dough like for roti, but patted the tiny pancakes with my hand, drizzled some oil to cook it on low flame. Asked hubby, if he was hungry, he said yes, so gave him to taste with a quick dip with  1/2 cucumber grated and mixed 4 tsp of sandwich spread, which had cheese and chili flavour ! Both of us liked this healthy dish, so thought that I'ld share at once with all those who are getting health conscious and struggling to shed weight like me ! Better be on the look out for more such recipes often, as I've to make something, to keep my hunger at bay, eating healthy. Shall soon be trying some healthy dessert with unrefined sugar/ something like powdered jaggery, which can also be used.

ps- may be one can also use little curd while making the dough and resting it for some time, as I was to hungry, made it soon after I made the dough ! One can use ghee/ butter, but i used oil to cook it.

Keep Your Pots and Pans Sparkling Clean

The high acidity level contained in coffee acts as a natural cleaning abrasive, ideal for scrubbing dirty pots and pans. A couple of teaspoons of coffee grounds and a rag is all it takes to eliminate the unwanted grease stains.

Cover Unwanted Scratches with Coffee Grounds

Use coffee grounds to cover up scratches or dark stains on wooden furniture. You can make a thick paste out of the coffee grounds and water and then rub the paste into the scratch. Your furniture should look brand new afterwards.

Coffee Can Be Used as a Fertilizer Mist for Your Garden

Fill a spray bottle with half a cup of coffee grounds and warm water. Spray your flowers and plants with the mist to keep your garden chemical-free.

Prevent Stray Cats from Entering Your Garden

Cats do not like the smell of coffee at all. Once they pick up the strong scent, they will leave the premises right away. You can sprinkle a few coffee grounds around your garden to keep cats from destroying your beautiful plants and flower beds.

Alter the Color of Your Hydrangeas

The pH balance of the soil can negatively affect your precious Hydrangeas. Not to worry, a few old coffee grounds should help do the trick. Coffee grounds reduce the pH balance of the soil and transform pink flowers into blue ones.

Coffee helps to keep garlic and onion smell far away

Use coffee grounds to wash your hands after you've been dicing up onions or chopping garlic cloves. The grounds absorb all the strong odors in no time at all.
