Maajun is a traditional, nutritious sweet often made with dried fruits, nuts, and spices, especially during winters for strength and warmth. Here's how you can make it:
Ingredients:
Wheat flour (atta) - 2 cups
Desi ghee - 1 cup
Jaggery (gur) - 1 ½ cups (grated)
Chopped dry fruits (almonds, pistachios, walnuts, cashews) - 1 cup
Dried coconut copra) - ½ cup (grated)
Dates (chopped) - 1 cup
Poppy seeds (khus khus) - 2 tbsp
Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
Nutmeg powder - ½ tsp
Gondh (edible gum) - 3 tbsp
Milk - ½ cup
Method:
Heat 2-3 tbsp of ghee in a pan.
Fry the edible gum (gondh) in small batches until it puffs up and turns light golden.
Remove and crush into coarse powder once cooled.
Roast the Flour:
In the same pan, add the remaining ghee.
Add wheat flour and roast it on low heat until aromatic and golden brown. Stir constantly to avoid burning.
Gradually add the grated jaggery into the roasted flour and mix well.
Stir in the milk to help the jaggery melt and combine with the flour.
Add the Dry Ingredients:
Mix in the chopped dry fruits, grated coconut, fried gondh, dates, poppy seeds, cardamom powder, and nutmeg powder.
Cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined.
Let the mixture cool slightly.
While warm, shape it into small balls (ladoos) or press it into a greased tray to set as barfi.
Allow it to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
Serve as a snack or dessert.
Tips:
You can adjust the quantity of dry fruits and spices as per your preference.
This mithai stays fresh for up to 2-3 weeks in a cool, dry place.
Enjoy the wholesome goodness of Sindhi Maajun!
