Egg Substitute charts

1. Applesauce – Egg Baking Substitute

Applesauce is well used in many recipes. You can use 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce to one egg in most baking recipes.

Some of the recipes that we have seen suggest that you mix the applesauce with 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. If you are going to replace only with Applesauce, consider reducing the overall sugar in the recipe.

You can also substitute Applesauce for Oil. It’s a very healthy and popular alternative and you can use it creatively in most baked recipes.

2. Mashed Banana – Egg Baking Substitute

Banana is another healthy and delicious alternative that you are going to love. 1/4 of mashed banana is equivalent to half a banana.

Mash it up and it replaces one egg in your baking. You need to remember that this could give your recipe a mild banana flavor which provided it is bread, for example, will add a delicious touch. Use your discretion and apply it to the right recipes.

3. Vegetable Oil – Egg Baking Substitute

In most instances, one egg can be replaced by 1/4 cup vegetable oil when baking. Bear in mind it is not suggested that you use more than this amount of oil in a recipe as it will make it too oily. The last thing you want is grease in your baking.

4. Flax Seeds – Egg Baking Substitute

Who would have thought that you could substitute flax seeds for eggs? That was certainly a new one in our books! You will need to mix one tablespoon of ground flax seeds with 3 tablespoons.

It is ready to use when the water is fully absorbed and has a thick, sticky consistency that is between solid and liquid.

You can use this mixture to replace one egg. Pre-ground Flax Seeds are fine, or you can grind them yourself.

5. Water, Oil, and Baking Powder

Here’s another very popular egg substitute. You simply whisk together two tablespoons of water, one teaspoon of oil (use corn or vegetable oil), and two teaspoons of baking powder (baking soda).

This mixture equals one egg. This is particularly good for your cookies and baked goods. It is pretty much undetectable and flavorless.
