10 Different Coffee Stain Removal Tricks You Need to Know

Coffee is an extremely important and vital part of most people’s day. Over 10 million tons of coffee are consumed every year across the world. With all of its deliciousness and energy-boosting properties, there’s no getting rid of coffee from our lives. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to get rid of those nasty coffee stains that find their way into every part of our lives. A sudden brake while driving and your latte forms a pattern on the car seats. What you thought was a push door turned out to be a pull, and suddenly your white sweater is brown. Don’t worry, we have solutions for all of your coffee stain related problems. From coffee stains on your teeth to spilled coffee on your couch, these tips can make coffee stains a thing of the past.

1. Removing coffee stains from furniture
Coffee stains on your furniture can be an undeniably irksome and persistent problem. Between guests, children and sheer bad luck, more coffee ends up on the sofa than in your stomach. Flipping the couch cushions can be a solution, but it only works once!

We have a quick fix method that will work every time on fresh spills! Start by soaking up as much of the spilled coffee as possible with paper towels. Then put a few drops of ordinary laundry detergent onto a sponge and rub the stain in a careful circular motion so the stain doesn’t spread any further. If it is an especially persistent stain, just clean the sponge and get to work with the detergent again until it’s faded. Then wipe the area down with a fresh wet sponge.

2. Removing coffee stains from a carpet
Any kind of a stain on the carpet is a house owner's worst nightmare. Coffee stains are like the Freddie Krueger of all carpet stains. But much like Mr. Krueger, there is a way of defeating them, and it is as simple as white vinegar! White vinegar contains acetic acid, which is an excellent remover of stubborn stains.

1 tablespoon of white vinegar combined with an equal portion of liquid dish soap mixed in two cups of warm water will be your miracle solution. First, blot the spilled coffee with paper towels. If the stain has already dried out, add a little warm water and then blot with a dry cloth. Then, using a fresh cloth and the above-mentioned soap solution, rub the stain from the outside to prevent the spreading of the stain, until it is gone completely.

3. Cleaning coffee spills from your car
Cup holders seem very convenient until that one day you push the brake pedal suddenly and you realize how loose a grip the holder actually has. Also, you get to know how sticky leather seats can get when doused with hot coffee. Nevertheless, with a quarter cup of white vinegar, a little dish-washing soap and just 1 cup of water, you can get those seats looking and feeling smooth again.

In case of dry stains, make sure to add a little warm water first, and then proceed to blot the stain with paper towels. Then you can use a dry clean cloth, dipped into the vinegar-soap solution to clean any and all affected areas of the car, from the cup-holder to the seats. In places where stains have occurred on any form of fabric, make sure to rub in a circular motion so the stain doesn’t spread outward.

4. Removing coffee stains from mugs
The sad truth is, our coffee mugs might be the most affected items in our lives, at least when it comes to coffee. Even if you manage to avoid stains appearing on the outside, often caused by congealed coffee, it is almost impossible to stop the inside of your mug from steadily gaining a browner color over days, weeks, and months. Until one day you find yourself with a mug that is now an entirely different color than the one you purchased, and your partner, parent or friend informs you that it may be time for a new mug. You can stop the cycle from repeating itself with one simple product: table salt.

Just fill the mug with a good layer of salt and use cleaning gloves to scrub the inside of the mug. This should remove the stain completely, and if salt doesn’t work or, perhaps, you’re facing a shortage, baking soda is also known to be effective. After you’re done scrubbing the mug, make sure to put it in with the next load of dishes to avoid your next cup of coffee being a salty one!

5. Removing coffee stains from a kitchen counter
If you’ve managed to avoid staining the outside of your mug, chances are it’s because any and all spilled coffee has ended up on your kitchen counter, where it has remained unnoticed until your return from work in the night. By then, this warm delicious liquid has become a cold, brown, and almost-solid mess, and the color has seeped into the marble, wood, glass, or any other material in question. Well, believe it or not, there’s a very simple way to restore the original color of your counter, and it’s sitting in your fridge waiting for you.

Crack an ordinary egg, very carefully into a dish, and separate the white of the egg from the yolk. Feel free to keep aside the white of the egg to use in your next healthy meal, and then beat the yolk thoroughly. Using a cloth, apply the yolk generously to the stained area and let it sit for a minute or two until it is semi-dry. Then rinse the area thoroughly, and your kitchen counter shall be stain-free!

 6. Cleaning your teeth of coffee stains
Despite its wonderful effects on your energy levels, coffee isn’t great for your teeth. Sure, the sugar can do some serious damage, so you might think that coffee would be harmless if you remove the sugar quotient. But coffee can also severely stain your teeth, leaving them yellowish or light brown, particularly if you are a frequent and regular coffee drinker. To prevent this, you may need to up your dental hygiene routine.

For starters, use toothbrushes with slightly harsher bristles, and only toothpaste that contains hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, as the former acts as a natural whitener while the latter is an effective stain remover. Also, make a habit of brushing your teeth after consuming coffee, or at the very least, rinsing your mouth with warm water.

7. Getting rid of fresh coffee stains from clothing
Spilling coffee on your clothes is a part of life, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with the stains forever. If you want to get rid of that stain as soon as it hits the cloth, we may be able to help. First things first, though, check the label of the clothing in question to ensure there are no special cleaning instructions or restrictions.

The main three ingredients we’ll be using are white vinegar, table salt, and laundry detergent. First, sprinkle the affected area with table salt so the stain cannot spread. After a minute or two, brush off the coffee-absorbed salt with a paper towel. Run the back of the stain under cold water for about 15 minutes, then treat with small amounts of laundry detergent. Finally, apply a little white vinegar onto the stain and scrub with a toothbrush. After that, let the garment sit for fifteen minutes and then put it in the washing machine.

8. Getting rid of old coffee stains from clothing
Now, for older coffee stains, you will need a different solution because the coffee is likely to have seeped deep into the cloth fibers. Have no fear though, we have a quick fix for that as well. To start with, you will need either rubbing alcohol or lemon juice. Dab the part of the garment with the dried stain with an extremely small amount of rubbing alcohol or lemon juice.
Make sure the cloth does not become too saturated with the liquid, only a very small amount is required to soften the stain. After the alcohol or lemon juice has dried, rub some laundry detergent onto the affected area until the stain is removed. Then, you can rinse the garment with warm water and after it dries, it will be suitable for a normal wash in the washing machine.

9. Removing coffee stains in a coffee maker
Nobody can afford to buy an expensive latte every morning, and if you have a particularly stressful job, having a coffee maker on hand, in an office, a study or at home, can be the best way to cut down on costs. But coffee makers are as susceptible to stains as our clothes, teeth, and furniture are. In fact, even more so, as coffee makers can be stained inside and out by spilled coffee grains and leftover coffee brew residue. To initiate the cleaning process, check the manual of your machine to see if it has any specified cleaning instructions. Keep in mind, on average, coffee makers need to be cleaned at least once every six months, if not more.
First, to clean the inside, use equal parts white vinegar and cold water poured into the pot of the machine, and hit the switch to make it brew. You can switch it off halfway through the cycle and then rinse out the container with soapy water. Then use clean cold water in a similar manner, allowing it to brew. Use clean water in the brewing cycle at least 3 times to clear out any residual soap or vinegar.
Once the inside is cleaned, you can use soap and water on a sponge, or straight vinegar on a cloth to wipe down the outside surface of the coffee maker. Clean any individual parts of the machine in a similar manner and then rinse thoroughly with cold water before leaving to dry. This will have your coffee maker looking as good as new!

10. Removing burnt coffee from a coffee maker hot plate
Even if you’re using a hot plate designed for making coffee, it’s still likely to leave a big mess. Not including spilled coffee, which you now know the easy fixes for cleaning, with a hot plate there is the additional struggle of the stains left by burnt coffee. This, too, can be easily cleaned, though.
Start by ensuring the machine is switched off and unplugged. Then dip a cloth into a mix of dish-washing detergent and warm water, and scrub the cloth against the affected area until a majority of the burnt coffee stains are removed. You can scrub off the remaining residual stains with a sponge soaked in small amounts of white vinegar. Clean off the last of the residue as well as the white vinegar and soap with paper towels soaked in cold water. Finally, a dry paper towel will have your hot plate sparkling.

Amazing uses of coffee powder

Coffee provides us with a quick boost of energy to start the day, or to stay up late at night. Most of us, however, discard old coffee grounds, but you may want to hold on to them after reading about their many practical uses here. There is also a bonus video at the end you won't want to miss.

1. Exfoliate Your Pores with a Homemade Mocha Mask

Here is the recipe for a homemade Mocha-Frappuccino Mask:

What You Will Need:

2 tbsp. of freshly ground coffee (use the finer grind if possible)
    2 tbsp. of cocoa powder
3 tbsp. of whole milk, heavy cream, or yogurt
    1 tbsp. of honey

Directions:

    Mix all the ingredients together.
Apply the mask to your face in the morning.
Allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes.
Wash the mask off in the shower, scrubbing very gently over the skin surface while rinsing.

2. Create an Aromatic Soap

Here is the easy-to-make recipe for an aromatic bar of soap:

What You Will Need:

    8 ounces glycerin soap
    1/4 cup used coffee grounds
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 teaspoon powdered milk (optional)
    Small saucepan
    Small metal or glass bowl
    Muffin tin
    Ladle
    Butter knife

Directions:

    Gather all the ingredients together.
Fill a small saucepan with 1 cup of water, topping the metal or glass edges of the bowl to create a double boiler.
    Place over medium heat.
Mix the soap into the bowl and let it melt completely with the aid of the steam from the boiling water below. This process should take you a few minutes
Lightly grease 4 rounds of a muffin tin while the soap is melting.
Pour a small spoonful of coffee grounds at the base of each muffin tin.
Turn off the heat as soon as the soap becomes liquid.
Add the vanilla, and add 1 teaspoon of the coffee grounds.
    Stir in the powdered milk.
Carefully pour the soapy mixture into the muffin tin, filling each round to the top.
Allow it to cool for several hours, and then scoop them out with a butter knife.
Wrap in parchment paper and enjoy your wonderful-smelling soaps.

3. Homemade Coffee Salt Scrub

Here is the recipe for a homemade salt scrub:

What You Will Need:

    1 cup coffee grounds (dried)
1 ½ cup coarse sea salt
    1 cup oil (your preference)
5-15 drops of essential oils (your preference)

Directions:

Fill a large bowl with 1 cup of coffee grounds and 1½ cups of coarse sea salt, and then stir.
Stir in the cup of oil and about 5-15 drops of essential oils into a bowl. You can use cinnamon, lemon or Eucalyptus for the essential oils. They all work very well.
Store the mixture in an airtight jar, and use the scrub as needed.

4. Keep Your Pots and Pans Sparkling Clean
The high acidity level contained in coffee acts as a natural cleaning abrasive, ideal for scrubbing dirty pots and pans. A couple of teaspoons of coffee grounds and a rag is all it takes to eliminate the unwanted grease stains.

5. Wash Your Hands After Chopping Onions and Garlic
Use coffee grounds to wash your hands after you've been dicing up onions or chopping garlic cloves. The grounds absorb all the strong odors in no time at all.

6. Give Your Dog a Flea Bath
Mix a tablespoon of used coffee grounds with your dog's shampoo during the bath. It will help keep those pesky little insects off your beloved pet.

7. Coffee Ground Garbage Disposal Cleaners

Here are the instructions for a coffee grounds garbage disposal cleaner:

What You Will Need:

1 cup dry used coffee grounds
    1/2 cup Epsom salts
    1/2 cup baking soda
    3 tbsp vinegar
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
    Small mixing bowl
Rounded measuring spoon or small melon baller
    Sheet pan
    Parchment paper

Directions:

Measure and add the coffee grounds, Epsom salts, and baking soda to the mixing bowl.
Slowly add the vinegar, which will bubble once it interacts with the baking soda.
Add a little bit at a time until the mixture resembles wet sand.
Add a little vanilla to the tiny garbage disposal cleaners for a pleasant smell.
Cover a sheet pan with parchment paper, and use a rounded measuring spoon or melon baller to create the cleaners.
Scoop the mixture and then press against the side of the bowl, packing the coffee ground filter together, and then tap onto the parchment-covered sheet pan.
Let the cleaners dry overnight and then place in a coffee cup next to your sink.
Drop one down your drain, turn on your garbage disposal and then the faucet.
You should have about 30 mini garbage disposal cleaners in total.

8. Alter the Color of Your Hydrangeas
The pH balance of the soil can negatively affect your precious Hydrangeas. Not to worry, a few old coffee grounds should help do the trick. Coffee grounds reduce the pH balance of the soil and transform pink flowers into blue ones.

9. Snack on a Few Coffee Energy Bites
Snack on a few bite-sized coffee energy treats to give you a boost during the day. Peanut butter may be substituted for almond butter, but it must be the creamy variety. Here is the delicious recipe:

Did you know that you can cook your favorite pork meal with coffee grounds? Here is the mouth-watering recipe:

What You Will Need:

3.5 lbs. Boston Butt or Pork Shoulder
1 oz. (approx 3 tbsp) coffee beans
    ½ cup brown sugar
    ½ tbsp. cayenne pepper
    ½ tbsp. salt
    15-20 cranks cracked black pepper
    1 tsp. minced garlic
    ½ tsp. smoked paprika

Directions:

Begin by grinding the coffee beans to powder. Select the “espresso grind” if possible.
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl.
Gently pat the mixed dry rub on all sides of the pork roast.
Put the pork roast into a slow cooker, gather up any coffee grounds that might have fallen off, and sprinkle them into the slow cooker.
Set the heat to low, tighten the lid of the cooker, and let it cook for 8 hours.
The roast should be nice and tender afterward and should shred easily with a fork.
Use a bit of caution when lifting the roast out of the slow cooker and onto a serving platter. Enjoy your meal.

11. Use Them to Make Homemade Coffee Candles

Here are the instructions on how to make a few wonderfully smelling homemade coffee candles:

What You Will Need:

    Small paper coffee cup
    1-2 tbsp. used coffee grounds
    Paper towel
    1 cup wax candle remnants
    Candlewick
    Scissors
    Small saucepan
Small metal or glass mixing bowl

Directions:

In order to create the base of the candle, add 1 cup of wax candle remnants to a small metal or heat-safe glass bowl.
Place the remnants over the top of a small saucepan, and fill it halfway with water. This should give you a double boiler.
Allow the water to simmer and observe carefully until the wax has completely melted. The process should take about 5 minutes or so.
Clean the paper coffee cup thoroughly and wipe it down to make sure it's dry.
Place the coffee grounds in a paper towel, and squeeze to release any extra liquid.
Place the wick in the center of the cup, and sprinkle a layer of the coffee grounds at the base.
Gently pour in half of the melted wax over the coffee grounds, while saving the rest of the wax for the top of the candle.
Allow the wax to harden for 20 minutes.
Add the cooled wax with extra spoonfuls of coffee grounds to create the second layer of the candle.
Reheat the wax in the double boiler, and top off the candle.
Allow the candle to cool off for about an hour.
Cut away to reveal the finished candle.
Smooth the edges with a paper towel if needed, and trim the end of the wick to fit the candle. Enjoy.

12. A Natural Way to Dye Fabrics

Here is a simple step-by-step guide to dying out fabrics using old coffee grounds:

Instructions:

Wash and dry the fabric to remove any excess dirt and oil, which can keep the dye from penetrating evenly. This step is especially important on brand new fabrics that are coated with a finishing spray.
Place a large pot on your cooktop. You will need a pot that is large enough to submerge your fabric. A regular stockpot will do just fine.
Prepare several pots of coffee and pour into a larger pot, one cup at a time. You will need a large amount of coffee to cover the fabric completely once it is placed in the pot.
You can achieve darker color fabrics with a stronger coffee brew.
If you plan on preparing several batches of coffee, you will need to fill the stockpot with water and allow the instant coffee to dissolve inside.
Bring to a boil after pouring all of your freshly prepared coffee into the pot.
Turn the heat off once the coffee reaches a full boil.
Add the fabric to the stockpot.
Submerge the fabric into the stockpot after you've turned the heat off and the coffee has stopped bubbling.
Get rid of any air pockets by stirring the coffee grounds with a wooden spoon for a few seconds or so.
Allow the fabric to steep for about a half hour, and longer if you desire a deeper tint.
Rinse the dyed fabric under cold water in the sink. Once the water runs clear, the excess dye has been removed.
Alternatively, if you still want the fabric to be a darker color after rinsing it, you can bring your coffee dye back to a boil and steep the fabric again.
Beware, the coffee dye may stain your pot if you don't drain it and wash immediately after the dyeing process is finished.
    Gently wash the fabric.
Wash the fabric infrequently and use a mild detergent such as Woolite to protect against fading.

13. Get Rid of Foul Odors in Shoes
Just put a few old coffee grounds into the shoes and allow them to work their magic. The unpleasant smell should leave right away.

14. Polish Unfinished Wood Flooring

Transform old unfinished wood with wet coffee grounds and steel wool. Here's how to do it:

What You Will Need:

    Steel wool
    1 tbsp. coffee grounds
    White vinegar
    A sealable container
Directions:
Place the steel wool and coffee grounds in the container, and fill it with the vinegar.
Allow it to sit for 24 hours.
The vinegar should begin to dissolve the steel wool at this point.
The coffee grounds will give the stain a bit of a brownish color.
Take a plastic glove, and fish the steel wool out of the container.
Rub the steel wool all over the piece of wood, dipping it back into the container for more liquid as necessary.
Coffee grounds will be all over the floor but don't worry about the mess, you can just wipe it after it dries.
Allow the first coat to dry for about 1 hour and then do a second layer.

15. Cover Unwanted Scratches with Coffee Grounds

Use coffee grounds to cover up scratches or dark stains on wooden furniture. You can make a thick paste out of the coffee grounds and water and then rub the paste into the scratch. Your furniture should look brand new afterward.

16. Wash Your Hair with Coffee Grounds
You can add old coffee grounds to your shampoo or conditioner to get rid of oil and build-up. Beware that it turns light-colored hair darker.

17. Create a Non-Toxic Playdough for Kids

Here are the instructions for turning old coffee grounds into a mud-like, non-toxic Playdough for kids:
What You Will Need:

    2 cups of flour
    1/2 cup of coffee grounds
1 tbsp of instant coffee (if it isn't dark enough)
    1 cup of salt
2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
    1 cup of boiling water
    2 tbsp of oil

Directions:

Add all the dry ingredients together, followed by 1 cup of boiling water, and stir.
Allow the mixture to sit for a while so it thickens.
Stir some more, and presto, you now have a pleasant smelling, non-toxic Playdough substance.

18. They Can Be Used as a Fertilizer Mist for Your Garden
Fill a spray bottle with half a cup of coffee grounds and warm water. Spray your flowers and plants with the mist to keep your garden chemical-free.

19. Prevent Stray Cats from Entering Your Garden

Cats do not like the smell of coffee at all. Once they pick up the strong scent, they will leave the premises right away. You can sprinkle a few coffee grounds around your garden to keep cats from destroying your beautiful plants and flower beds.

15 Useful Things You Can Do With Aluminum Foil

1. Soften Brown Sugar

If your brown sugar has turned into a rock-solid lump, just grab a piece of tin foil! Wrap the brown sugar clump in tin foil, put it in your oven, and bake it at 300°F for 5 minutes. The heat will soften up the brown sugar, and it will come out ready to use!

2. Pipe Frosting

There’s nothing like piped frosting to make your cake or cupcakes extra special, but you don’t need a special piping bag to do it! Use a sheet of tin foil to form your own disposable piping bag.

3. Shine Silverware

Use aluminum foil to restore the shine to your silverware! Place a sheet of tin foil at the bottom of a baking dish, then set your silverware on the foil. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of salt and 2 teaspoons of baking soda over the silverware, then pour several cups of hot water into the dish. Let the silverware soak for 5 minutes, then remove, rinse, and admire the shine! :-)

4. Clean Cast Iron

Use a balled-up piece of tin foil to scrub away crusty baked-on messes in your cast iron pans.

5. Sharpen Scissors

If your scissors are starting to feel a bit dull, you can sharpen them with tin foil. Take a piece of tin foil and fold it in half at least 3 times. Use the scissors to make several cuts on the foil, and your scissors will be noticeably sharper afterward!

6. Protect Pie Crust

You can use tin foil to protect the edges of your pie crust and prevent them from burning in the oven. One way to do it is to use it preventatively. Just wrap the edges of your pie with tin foil at the beginning of the baking process, then remove the foil halfway through.
Alternatively, you could put the tin foil on near the end of the baking process. This can be helpful if the edges of the crust seem to be browning faster than the rest of the crust.

7. Foil Funnel

Funnels are one of those kitchen tools that you’re pretty sure you can live without… until the moment that you wish you had one! If you ever find yourself in this situation, you can improvise by fashioning a funnel out of a piece of tin foil. Just form a cone shape with the foil, and fold the edges over to help keep the shape.

8. Foil Packet Dinners

Making foil packet recipes is one of the best ways to use foil in the kitchen. One of my favorite foil packet recipes is salmon filets cooked with honey and lemon, which turn out perfectly moist and flaky thanks to those foil pouches! (And don’t worry, cooking with tin foil is perfectly safe!)

9. Keep Food Warm

Tin foil is especially handy for keeping things warm, thanks to its reflective surface. If one part of your meal is ready before the rest of it, just wrap it up in tin foil to help keep it warm while you finish off the rest of the food.

10. Prevent Messes

Tin foil is a great tool for preventing baked-on messes. If you’re baking something the may splatter or drip, just line a baking sheet with tin foil and place on the rack below whatever you’re baking. If your dish bubbles over, it will land on the foil-lined sheet and make cleanup quick and easy!

11. Take It Camping

Tin foil makes a useful addition to your regular camping supplies. Many foods can be cooked or heated through simply by wrapping them in tin foil and tossing them in a campfire! You can also use tin foil as a reflective signaling material if you happen to get lost.

12. Light It Up

If you’re starting seeds indoors, they can usually use all the extra light they can get! One way to amplify the natural light is to line a shoebox with tin foil, and place your seedlings into the box. The foil will reflect the light (and heat!) onto the seedlings and help them get started.

13. Painting Helper

Taping off doorknobs when painting can be a total pain. Save yourself some time and effort by wrapping the knobs in tin foil! It’s easy to mold the foil onto a door knob, and you can even reuse it if you don’t end up getting any paint on it.

14. Freeze It

Heavy-duty tin foil makes a great material for freezer storage because it doesn’t allow air to pass through. It will keep the flavors in, and the smells from other foods out! Wrap and freeze breads, casseroles, and more.

15. Easy Cleanup

One of the best ways to use tin foil is to protect large, hard-to-wash pans from greasy messes. Line the bottom of your roasting pan before roasting a turkey or pot roast, then toss out the foil when you’re done. Your roasting pan can go right back into the cupboard, rather than taking up your entire sink for hours while it soaks!
